Daikokuya Japanese Restaurant (Ramen)
June 21st, 2010 by Nakioki received No Comments »I been lagging on this review. And there were questions coming up “When will you do the review?” It’s my fault for lagging… and I kind of drop the ball on this one. I regret for not doing this review right away. This is one of those restaurant that needs to be visited twice… cause the first time I just HAD to mess it up.
But what can I say? Let’s just get to the chase…
It’s rare to find a good ramen place at night… make that 12am MIDNIGHT. Once in a while you get that urge to eat something good. Something that will fill the spot. You don’t want your boring normal fast food joints… You demand something more… something GOOD! Well this might change things up a bit. Japanese food at night to beat that midnight hunger. If you happen to live downtown… LA that is. Just in the heart of Little Tokyo then you’re in luck. Few good restaurants are open at this time especially a restaurant that serves good o’le ramen.
I was attending an art show/club night my sister made me go. Wasn’t really my cup of tea but it’s hard to say no to her. After arriving for a while I found a good friend of mine… (and also the person who hosts this site) suggested I should go with them to a ramen place. Suggested? Maybe asked me if I was hungry… I agreed to go so after 30min of smoke break later (not me I don’t smoke) we set off foot to Daikokuya. Which was located about less than 5min away from the club.
Upon arriving we waited about 20min outside… You’d think there would barely be anyone there eating. But you’ll be surprised. The place was packed! As we waited outside we took the time to mess around and talk about random crap. After our name was called we sat in a bar where you can see them cooking the ramen. Which was nice… you get to see how they do it. You know this place reminds me of another place… what was it… Ah! yes… Hakata Ramen. My favorite ramen! I was told that this place was similar to Hakata Ramen so I had to try it. Also before I forget to mention this restaurant served other food beside “Ramen”… they served other dishes like sushi to fried rice… Okay that was a bad example and I’m not going to lie. I barely looked at their menu. Why? There’s only one reason why I came here… and it’s to try out the ramen! So I did… and I ordered their specialty ramen. Daikokuya ramen…
Now you see this is where my memory gets fuzzy… Since I lagged on this review my memory went bye bye. I forgot how good their ramen was. I forgot how perfect their soup was. That beefy broth salty creamy soup… the noodle being firm and delicious. It was like the perfect ramen… that rivals with Hakata ramen and of course how can I forget—Ajisen Ramen. Yeah I forgot all of that. How stupid of me! So guess what… I have to go back and try it all again! How fun is that?
Other than the food… the staff were nice and friendly. The place was pretty authentic and somewhat small and cramp just like any other japanese ramen places. And the price was not bad. And this is why I have to go back and make that 2nd review.
I am Nakioki and I am signing off for now… plotting my next move. Thanks for reading. Enjoy these pics. And go ahead don’t be afraid to click on them for bigger res.
